Act as part of the medical services team providing preventive health care, the full scope of primary care medical services, and reproductive health care according to PPMW protocols and operational processes as directed by the Chief Medical Officer, Primary Care Program Director, and the Center Manager. Reports clinically to the Director of Primary Care and operationally to the Center Manager.

Requirements:
  • Provide patients with appropriate and unbiased information, education and resources related to general health, chronic medical conditions, principles of health promotion and maintenance, family planning methods, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy options and abortion services.
  • Secure a complete health history, including obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, sexual, family health, and psychosocial histories, and record findings accurately and succinctly.
  • Perform appropriate physical examinations, medical assessment and management for a range of conditions, including but not limited to:
    • Diabetes
    • Hypertension
    • Hyperlipidemia
    • Anemia
    • Asthma
    • Migraines Headaches
    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • GERD and Peptic Ulcers
    • Thyroid Disorders
    • Common Pulmonary Infections
    • Hormone Therapy for Transgender Clients
    • Tobacco Cessation
    • Breast and Pelvic Exams
    • STI testing
    • Genitourinary Conditions
    • Cancer Screening Tests
  • After observation and approval, perform procedures as trained/privileged, such as EKG, spirometry, IUC insertion/removal, implant insertion/removal, colposcopy, LEEP, surgical abortion, medication abortion and colposcopy service, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate patient needs, provide treatment options, and implement regimens, including administering and prescribing medications.
  • Perform and interpret ultrasound for gestational dating and IUD localization.
  • Provide all aspects of abortion care allowed by law and within PPMW Medical Standards and Guidelines and protocols.
  • Provide medical management for procedure-related complications and assume lead role in the management of emergency situations as necessary.
  • Order lab tests as indicated, interpret results, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Perform PPM procedures as approved by Lab Director and participate in internal and external assessment of lab proficiency.
  • Perform accurate and thorough medical documentation in patient records and clinic logs, file and maintain patient records, and follow site-specific documentation protocols.
  • Ensure complete and accurate coding for visits and services rendered.
  • Participate in patient follow-up and referral system in compliance with indicated treatment plans, notification and reminder requirements, and timelines.
  • Respond to client telephone and electronic inquiries and requests regarding their medical care, condition, and test results.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency call triage nursing per PPMW protocols.
  • Consult with Medical Director, Primary Care Program Director, Senior Director of Business Operations, and/or Director of Risk and Quality Management as needed to ensure compliance with PPMW standards and guidelines.
  • Work independently to maintain up-to-date knowledge in the health care field via attending seminars and workshops, and reading relevant material
  • Participate in affiliate training program by attending scheduled group trainings and meetings, reading and integrating assigned written materials and completing individual eLearning modules as required; assist in efforts to train new staff depending on the needs of the health center.
  • Participate in clinic efforts to achieve customer service, productivity and revenue goals; demonstrate commitment to center's operating values of patient-centered care, team approach to work and consistent regulatory compliance and inspection readiness.
  • Precept or train medical trainees and students within guidelines of affiliate program.
  • Provide medical oversight and training of unlicensed staff as necessary.
  • Participate in risk and quality management activities, including, but not limited to recording adverse reactions, occurrence reporting and maintenance of abortion complication data.
  • Support and encourage a culture that:

  • Complete all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Administration) and Title X.
  • Collaborate with the health team and other community agencies and resources (e.g., physicians, local health departments, social service, nutritionists, dentists, and parent education groups), through joint planning and coordination of activities, in providing comprehensive care

Qualifications:

  • Current DC license as an NP to include prescriptive authority.
  • Active DEA license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Completed training in an approved specialist/practitioner program, with certification as an NP with specialization in family medicine
  • Three to five years clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to manage = 3.5 patients per hour
